AMERICAN CHIROPRACTIC BOARD OF SPORTS PHYSICIANS™

CCSP® EXAMINATION POLICY

Effective January 1, 1992

1.         A doctor of chiropractic who has successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of postgraduate education in the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physicians® program, from an accredited chiropractic college may be eligible to take the examination.  There is an application fee for the examination, and $50 of this amount is non-refundable.

2.         A doctor of chiropractic, who possesses an Athletic Trainer (ATC) Certification and can provide documentation of such, is not required to complete the 100 hours of postgraduate education in CCSP program to be eligible to sit for the examination.

3.         An application may be obtained from your college’s postgraduate office, or by contacting the Board Secretary of the ACBSP™.  All applications and supporting materials must be received no less than 45 days prior to the anticipated test date.  Complete directions are found on the application.  All applicants must have in their possession an admission certificate in order to be admitted to the exam site.  Anyone not in possession of such a certificate will not be permitted to take the examination.

4.         The examination is prepared and scored by an examination service, and administered by the ACBSP.  It is written in a multiple choice format.  You will be notified of your test results by letter as soon as possible following your examination.

5.         After successfully completing the certification examination, a certificate will be issued approximately 6-8 weeks after receipt of your test scores.

6.         If you fail the examination, you may sit for a re-examination at a subsequent test by reapplying.  The exam may be taken a maximum of three (3) times before additional educational hours are required.

7.         The American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians offers two official testing dates per year.  The examination may be administered in more than one location simultaneously on those test dates.  Upcoming test dates will be published on the ACBSP website, www.acbsp.com, and are also available by contacting the ACBSP Board Secretary.

8.         Any candidates enrolled in courses which began prior to the effective date of this policy (January 1, 1992) will be subject to the previously existing policy.

9.         Candidates must successfully complete the written examination three (3) years from the date of completion of the CCSP program.

10.        Without documented medical emergency, no refund will be made unless a written notice of withdrawal is received at least two weeks prior to the examination date.  Individuals filing withdrawal notices received 14-28 days prior to the examination will receive a 50 percent refund.

11.        Candidates enrolled in courses leading to eligibility for the CCSP examination will be held to the existing policy at the time of their initial enrollment in the program as long as course attendance is consistent.
